All Souls' Day - Wikipedia
Notes:
All Souls' Day
Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed in general and members of our own family who died in particular.
We dedicate this day for the holy souls especially those still in need or in the process of purification (or purgation). Looking back, yesterday, on All Saints Day, we’re reminded of our goal, of our final destiny as Christians, sons and daughters of God, created in the image and likeness of Him our Creator. Out destiny is heaven our true homeland. The saints are there as examples and models for us to emulate and imitate. If the saints can make it, then why can’t we? Or why can’t I? Saints are there to intercede for us.
Today’s commemoration reminds us of who we are right HERE and right NOW and the process that we need to go through to reach HEAVEN and live with all the saints and our faithful departed who have successfully passed the process of purification with the help of our Mass offerings, personal prayers, rosaries, sacrifices, alms-givings, visiting the gravesites (unable to do so this year in some parts of the world due to covid restrictions), lighting a candle, offering flowers, among others.
The Holy Bible, especially the readings on the three cycle of our liturgical year, helps us to reflect deeper on how to reach our final destination, that is, heaven. Simple and straightforward, yes!
Do Good, Be Good - feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome strangers, clothe the naked, visit the sick and those in prison.
In reality, I wonder if we have done some, if not all of them, plus of course the spiritual works of mercy. Have we gotten involved and participated in such efforts of caring for others? And in serving others? Perhaps we can do more… and we can grow more. Can we go beyond in saying: “am trying my best!” Some of us wear a Nike product like shoes, so Just Do it! Go to church and pray for your dear departed, light a candle, offer flowers, give alms (it purifies your soul).
May the souls of our dear departed and the souls of the faithful ones Rest In Peace in heaven. Amen!
